From age 40, an annual examination, particularly of the optic nerve and intraocular pressure, is recommended. This allows glaucoma to be ruled out. It is important to detect and treat eye diseases early, as this can help preserve the eye’s vision.
For individuals with myopia of -4.0 diopters or more and diabetics, an annual retinal examination is recommended at any age. From age 60, AMD screening (age-related macular degeneration) and cataract examination are added.
